#LentenChallenge: Day 1

Day 1: Dust
Bible Verse: Genesis 3:19

By the sweat of your face
you shall eat bread
until you return to the ground,
for out of it you were taken;
you are dust,
and to dust you shall return.’

Bible Reading: Genesis 3:8-24 (read it here)

What does this mean for me?

We know what it means to be questioned about God. We have heard strangers, co-workers, friends, family and even loved ones ask about our relationship with God…sometimes in caring ways and other times in ways that our cast doubt. What we must learn is to love any question we get about our relationship with God. Our relationship with God needs to be shared!

This story in Genesis is one that speaks of a relationship with God who will clothe us and send us even in the midst of our brokenness, in the midst of us walking away from that same relationship God not moments before. This is the moment when it is hard for us to understand love, this is the moment that we hear our mother’s say “I brought you into this world and I can take you out of it.” This is the moment of God saying, “You are dust and to dust you shall return….” and then saying, “but you will know hope, you will know my love, you will know my son.”

When we are questioned about God our answer is, “I have a relationship with God who loves me in spite of my brokenness. I have a relationship with God that promises hope. I have a relationship with God that is made new everyday”
