#LentenChallenge: Day 2

Day 2: 40
Bible Verse: Matthew 4: 1-2

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
He fasted for forty days and forty nights, and afterwards he was famished.

Bible Reading: Matthew 3:13 – 4:11 (Matt. 3:13-17)(Matt. 4:1-11)

What does this mean for me?

When we pause for a moment we realize that Jesus Christ was led into the Wilderness by the Spirit to be tempted. We often feel that our time in the wilderness is one that is without the presence of the Spirit, that we are there alone, that we have to deal with temptation on our own.

We know now that not only is the Spirit present with us, but that the Spirit leads us there and that the Spirit will lead us out of temptation. To be led out of temptation is to trust in God fully and completely, giving our lives over to God. In this time of 40 days we must again learn how to trust God and to give all our cares to God and most of all how to face temptation face-to-face and to speak faith and hope in things to come. Ask yourself what being led out of your temptation looks like because it is always easy to know when we are being tempted, it is not often that we think about what it means to be on the other side of temptation and how that brings new life.
